Contemplative Art

This page is dedicated to Catholic content of a different kind: art. The internet is a wonderful tool but browsing and scrolling isn't always the best thing to do. Sometimes, it is being still and contemplating God through sacred art. Let's do it together.

Ash Wednesday
I have to admit, I am not sure if this photograph qualifies as a work of art. Not as I would ordinarily understand art to be, anyway. It does, however, take us to the heart of Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season and it is because of that, that I am using it here.

God is a God of riches and wealth, of glory and joy. The way to these wonderful things, however, which is to say, the way to His heavenly kingdom, is through the cross. Whether or not you get to an Ash Wednesday Mass this week, contemplate the cross, what Jesus did upon it for you and those you love, for all of us. What an amazing thing!

short prayer
this lent, O Lord,
may I embrace your cross;
and in so doing,
embrace you.
