Unity in Faith, Until Unity in Body

I'm still thinking about the phrase 'we recognise that this unity can only be unity in faith', which Pope Leo mentioned in his address to the '[R]epresentatives of other Churches and Ecclesial Communities, and Other Religions.'

When I wrote yesterday's post, I interpreted the pope as possibly meaning that the Catholic Church is seeking a 'unity in faith' rather than a corporate unity.

However, I then noted that immediately after the words quoted above he goes on to indicate that corporate unity is indeed what we are seeking.

So, which way round was it? I didn't know.

Perhaps now I do know. I'd like to highlight the words he says before the line quoted at the start. Namely, 'While we are on the journey to re-establishing full communion among all Christians we recognise that this unity can only be unity in faith.' (emphasise added)

I didn't give this line enough attention yesterday. It makes much more sense to say that while we seek full, corporate unity, unity in faith is all that we can have.

I suppose I could delete or re-write yesterday's post but discovery is one of life's joys and I don't mind at all discovering and blogging about things relating to the Faith here. Feel free to have a chuckle at my not reading the text closely enough to begin with, though!
