Lisieux Basilica

On 31st May, Pope Leo sent a message to the Bishops' Conference of France on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the canonisation of Saint John Eudes, Saint John Mary Vianney, and Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus. You can read it here

Three great saints. Admittedly, I only know John Eudes through Henri Nouwen but John Vianney and Thérèse of Lisieux are very well known to me. Especially Thérèse! She holds a special place in my heart as she was introduced to me by Christine, my instructor in the Faith when I joined the Church. I have written about Christine elsewhere, but for now, I will just say that last year, when the opportunity to visit Lisieux came up, you can bet I took it!

The basilica was as splendid as it looks and a prayerful place as well. It was a treat to be able to tour it and not only go up to the dome and walk along the battlements as well. They probably aren't called battlements but, you know, Thérèse, is a master of spiritual warfare. Anyway, if you get the chance to visit Lisieux, the basilica is a must.
